Purple Pasque Flowers

The delicate and fuzzy Purple Pasque Flower is one of the first flowers to bloom in Spring in Colorado. It blooms in mid April up in the foothills, usually with snow still lingering. It only lasts for a few days so you have to go looking for it at the right week. I found this thicket in Lory State Park.

European Common Toad in Forest, Germany

These are my personal favorite photos of the year, not necessarily what everyone would choose 🙂 This is a European Common Toad that I photographed in the enchanting forest around where I have family in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

American Avocet

The first time i ever saw an American Avocet I thought it was some kind of rare bird, but in spring they visit wetlands all around Colorado. I photographed these near the Great Sand Dunes.

High Park Fire Hiker

The High Park Fire came right to the shores of the Horsetooth reservoir and burned 93,000 acres and 260 homes over a month. It couldn’t not be contained, and only July monsoons finally doused the flames. Ft. Collins became an epicenter of activity and calamity as ash rained on the city and helicopters filled the sky. I shot a photo story on the High Park Fire, which CNN headlined on their website, and TV stations around the country used the photos.

Mt Sneffels Colorado

It’s rare that you get good clouds, snow, peak colors and great light. This photo of Mt. Sneffels might be my favorite of the year.

San Juan Mountains Panoramic, Colorado

San Juan Mountains Panoramic. Another instance of perfect conditions, this multi-image panoramic is one of my all time favorites and is hanging on my wall, 6 feet wide.
