Feuersalamander im wald

The Fire Salamander is my favorite animal, and getting to find and photograph them is a major highlight of visiting Germany. They’re still extremely common and plentiful in Baden-Württemberg, but the Bsal fungus plaque that has caused their extinction in Belgium and the Netherlands has entered Germany and extirpated them from the Eifel Forest in NW Germany. Salamanders in southern Germany could have the same fate if Bsal continues to spread.
